Wooden Paris Pond Yachts in the Jardin de Luxembourg!

These lovely wooden pond boats may in some cases be the original boats designed and built by the Paudeau family in the 1900s! These pond yachts in the Jardin de Luxembourg have the distinctive gaff-rigged main sail. In the picture below, you can see the yellow topsail on model boat number 21.

T-12 in the Jardin de Luxembourg!

For years, I have wanted to go to Paris to visit the famous sailing ponds! For me, these ponds were the highlight of my entire trip to Europe! It was a perfect spring day. All Paris had come out to enjoy the sun and I had a T-12 Racing Sloop, one of our model sailboats, to sail in this iconic sailing pond. At the time, since it was so early in the spring, the French pond boats had not yet appeared on the sailing pond in the Jardin de Luxembourg. But stay tuned for pictures from the Tuileries where some of the classic French pond yachts were sailing in tandem with our T-12. What a splendid day enjoying Paris and the beautiful wind filling the sails of a beautiful model pond boat.

Take a look at my T-12 with red and blue sails! The T-12 was the biggest boat I could fit in my luggage. Here you can see it sailing on the splendid sailing pond in the Jardin de Luxembourg in France!

A young French sailor was enamored with the T-12's performance as it raced across the pond. Model pond boats have an attraction for all ages with their colorful speed and grace.

Sailing in the Jardin de Tuileries!

After enjoying the morning in the Jardin de Luxembourg, I moved over to the Jardin de Tuileries for an afternoon sailing model pond yachts. My T-12 sails with the French pond boats in one of the three sailing ponds of the Jardin de Tuileries in France!

A young French skipper willingly took over command of my T-12 model sailboat along with the French wooden pond yacht that he had rented. Between the two wooden pond boats, he was kept very busy running from side to side to turn the boats around as soon as they reached the edge. The older French pond yacht definitely looked like one of the original Paudeau Paris pond yachts and the pool side vendor renting the pond yachts showed me a boat that had just been recovered from the mud in the bottom of one of the ponds that had just been drained for maintenance. The hull was still intact and this definitely looked like one of the Paudeau pond boats.

The beautiful sailing pond in the Jardin de Tuileries is located right in front of the magnificent buildings of the Louvre. The French have a wonderful way of combining magnificence and fun!

Paris was wonderful! The Eifel Tower was pretty nice, but the sailing ponds were spectacular!

Classic Paris Pond Yachts in the Jardin de Tuileries!

Sometimes it's hard to keep the pictures from the two gardens straight as to which is the Jardin de Tuilderies versus the Jardin de Luxembourg! Here's some tips to help you figure out which is which:

The Jardin de Luxembourg pond has angled sides, while the Jardin de Tuileries pond has rounded sides.
The Jardin de Luxembourg pond is located in front of the Luxembourg Palace, while the Jardin de Tuileries pond is in front of the Louvre.
Today, the Jardin de Luxembourg Paris pond boats are Gaff-Rigged Top-Sail Sloops, while the Jardin de Tuileries Paris pond boats have a triangular main sail and jib.
